Western Building Systems has completed the titanic task of providing a 16-classroom school and associated site-works in just 20 weeks utilising their off-site building systems to shave more than 60% off the traditional construction time.

The new £3.5m Griffeen Valley Educate Together Primary School in Lucan, County Dublin, is the first of its kind and has been designed to minimise running costs in terms of heating, lighting and ventilation demands. It is also believed to be the fastest-built school of its size and kind in Ireland.

At the official opening of the school, the Republic's former Education Minister, Noel Dempsey TD, paid tribute to those involved in the ambitious project.

"I set the challenge for the Department to move from a green-field site to having a permanent 16-classroom school in less than year. My Department?s approach was to seek tenders for the design and building of the new school and then leave Western Building Systems to get on with the job. The school was delivered on time and within budget through a combination of traditional and modern system build technologies executed on a fast-track five month programme."
